As we discussed, I want you try and create an image with a very shallow depth of field. One where the subject is in sharp focus and the background is blurred.
Remember the three things that control Depth of Field (DOF): #1 - Aperture Size: large aperture = less DOF, small aperture = more DOF you can make your point and shoot choose a large aperture by shooting under dim light #2 - Focal Length of the Lens: wide angle lens = more DOF, telephoto lens = less DOF Zoom your camera all the way out before composing the picture. #3 - Subject distance: close to subject = less DOF, far from subject = more DOF subject close to background = more DOF subject farther away from background = less DOF Also remember to try your MACRO setting (the little flower icon). This can greatly reduce the focusing distance and allow you to get extremely close to the subject and thereby blur the background with greater ease.
