Last class meeting we discussed the differences between harsh, soft & moderate lighting.
We also recapped the information concerning apertures, shutter speeds, and depth of field. For this assignment you will be creating 4 images showing Harsh/Soft Light: You will photograph your subject (person preferably) in both a HARSH lighting situation and a MODERATE or SOFT lighting situation. The pose should be similar in each photo. You will create two images of two different subjects (one harsh, one moderate)for a total of four (4) images. UPLOAD IMAGES TO FOLDER IN DROPBOX
As we discussed, I want you try and create an image with a very shallow depth of field. One where the subject is in sharp focus and the background is blurred.
Remember the three things that control Depth of Field (DOF): #1 - Aperture Size: large aperture = less DOF, small aperture = more DOF you can make your point and shoot choose a large aperture by shooting under dim light #2 - Focal Length of the Lens: wide angle lens = more DOF, telephoto lens = less DOF Zoom your camera all the way out before composing the picture. #3 - Subject distance: close to subject = less DOF, far from subject = more DOF subject close to background = more DOF subject farther away from background = less DOF Also remember to try your MACRO setting (the little flower icon). This can greatly reduce the focusing distance and allow you to get extremely close to the subject and thereby blur the background with greater ease. You will submit 2 images with a shallow depth of field using the Dropbox link below. Good luck! UPLOAD HERE to Dropbox On our first night we will talk about what to look for in a new camera.
